Should South African Hero Oscar Pistorius Be Allowed to Compete In The Regular Olympics London 2012 (POLL)

Oscar Pistorius is a national hero in South Africa. He is on the cover of almost every magazine and grabs the headlines quicker than a politician in the States. Last week the athlete was added to the 400m South African Olympic team. This is all fine and dandy, but what sets Oscar Pistorius apart from other athletes? 
 
Oscar is a double leg amputee. He was born with congenital absence of the fibula in both legs on the 22nd of November, 1986. His legs were amputated when he was only 11 months old. This did not hold Oscar back and he became a star athlete in his high school days. He competed in rugby, water polo, tennis and took part in Olympic club wrestling. Now, before you fall on your knees and start singing “He’s Got the Whole Wide World in His Hands” like a drunken congregation member at a happy church, Oscar has experienced quite some controversy. 
 
One side of the argument states that Oscar has an advantage over the other non-disabled athletes who partake in the events. He has been dubbed as the “Blade Runner” by both South African and international media because of his carbon-fiber devices that allow him to run at top speeds. The J-shaped blades are called “Cheetah Flex-Foot” and they allow Oscar to be one of the fastest double leg amputee athletes in the world. He has also been referred to as “the fastest man on no legs”. 
 
Oscar has won several gold and silver medals for his performances in the Paralympics, but was disqualified from the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008. Oscar achieved his personal best time of 46.5 seconds in Lucerne, Switzerland in the qualifying rounds for the Beijing Olympics, but it was still short of the Olympic qualification time of 45.55 seconds. 
 
It was announced last week by SASCOC (South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee) that Oscar will be included in the 2012 London Olympics alongside the able-bodied athletes, running the 400m and the 4 x 400m relay races. He is the first double amputee runner to ever compete in the Olympics. 
 
Why does this cause so much controversy? 
 
Many of the other able-bodied athletes are complaining that Oscar has an unfair advantage with his prosthetic legs. They believe his J-shaped legs give him an advantage over runners with natural ankles and feet. He does not experience the sudden impact and pressure on his legs as the other runners do, which in turn gives him more stamina and more power to compete. Tests were done at a University in Cologne and it was deduced that Pistorius used 25 percent less energy when competing against natural leg runners. Oscar disputed this and after a lengthy tribunal, it was ruled that the scientist did not take all variables into account and that Oscar does not have any advantage over other able-bodied athletes. The American scientists hired by Oscar also deduced that the Cologne scientist did not take into consideration the disadvantages that Oscar suffers at the beginning phase of the race. 
 
The fact of the matter is, Oscar still had to compete alongside natural athletes and still had to achieve an appropriate qualifying time for the London Olympic Games. He wasn’t thrust into the Olympics so that some fat man in an office that smells of cat urine could buy his daughter a new stripper pole. 
 
All this aside, we cannot stop but wonder what will happen if Oscar gets to London after a long flight from Johannesburg and it is revealed that his legs were in fact lost on the plane and were being used by a tribe in Kenya to boil their clothes. Hey, don’t forget your legs Oscar, losing them is kind of like a supermodel losing her face from too much Botox injections, like Janice Dickinson and the newborn babies on her mouth. 
 
Oscar Pistorius might be an inspiration to a country that has battled its’ own demons for many years, but to the rest of the world, Oscar is a tad bit like that kid in algebra class who cheated on his test by being skew-eyed. He couldn’t help but look at the answers. 
 
Because of Oscar’s disability he is allowed to use technology that none of the other competitors he faces are entitled to use.  These competitors say that regardless of Oscar’s amputations he should not be allowed to compete using tools that provide any advantage whatsoever.  The argument is that if other competitors were allowed to use special attachments they might be able to run even faster than they do now.

Well chicas’ the BET Awards are here again and it looks like the heavy hitters are all in the same family, so to speak. It seems that Beyonce will go up against her husband Jay-Z for video of the year. Should I say isn’t that cute, OK not so much funny it’s a business let me go on. 
 
Kanye West is in the forefront with seven nominations, Beyonce with six and bringing up the rear Jay-Z with five. Oh! And also Usher was nominated. Two of Kanye West and Jay-Z videos are up for video of the year and also Beyonce, two of her videos are up for video of the year. 
 
Ummm….I don’t remember Beyonce doing any video that was extra special last year, I don’t know mijas’ maybe that is just me but I think BET is doing this on purpose to make sure people will watch, just a thought. Please excuse me but they should have enough publicity because I know Kanye West’s “girlfriend” Kim Kardashian will probably be there because she is not going to miss an opportunity to again be on TV, because we all know that is what she lives for. 
 
Anyway Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Usher along with many are scheduled to perform. Whitney Houston’s mom is going to play a part of a tribute for Whitney which will include multiple singers. Guess who is hosting, no other than Samuel L Jackson. He has not hosted a big function as this before to my knowledge it should be interesting to see how he navigates with the different artist that will be there. Alright chicas’ the show is on Sunday night July 1st at 8pm it should be interesting to say the least.

Hell’s Kitchen 2012 Recap: Episode 8 “Top 12 Compete” 6/26/12

Tonight on FOX is an all new episode of Hell’s Kitchen. On tonight’s show the remaining 12 chefs compete and you know we will have plenty of craziness with Chef Gordon Ramsay.  If you missed last night’s episode when the 13 chefs competed during the fashion show, we have a full and detailed recap here for you. 
 
On last night’s episode of Hell’s Kitchen, the kitchen opened for the first time in Hell’s Kitchen history with three mini fashion shows. 
 
Royce and Kimmie were chosen to help plate food to keep up the quick pace. Clemenza was getting cranked, there were way too many scallops for him to prepare and do it right, although Tiffany finally had success with her scallops. Clemenza actually held up the whole kitchen and Guy ran in to help, only to rush it and make a bigger mess out of the whole situation. 
 
The women’s red team was the winner last night. The blue team had to come up with two names for elimination and no surprise that they picked Clemenza first and Guy second. When Chef Ramsay asked the whole team who they think should be eliminated, they all say Clemenza. In a surprise twist, Chef Ramsay sent Clemenza back in line and sent Guy home. 
 
Tonight the show continues with the 12 chefs battling it out. Special guests tonight are Tito Ortiz and Sugar Ray Leonard who offer inspiration to the contestants.

RECAP: Today’s challenge is going to test the chef’s ability to adapt. There are four domes and the chefs have to choose various ingredients and incorporate them together. Clemenza is thrilled to still be on the show and promises Chef Ramsay that he is going to bring it. Michelin chefs are guests to judge the dishes; Anita Lo, Douglas Keane and Michael Cimarusti. 
 
The score is tied, Royce and Christina are the last two to reveal their dishes. Royce gives the Michelin chefs a surprise, a long hair on his dish.  Christina wins it for the women with her lobster dish. 
 
The women get to go to a spa for reward, the men will be prepping both kitchens, but first, they have to clean both dorms. There is a surprise, the women are gifted with some really expensive cookware. 
 
It’s time for dinner service and in addition to the classic menu, Christina’s winning lobster dish has been added to the menu. Chef Ramsay wants the chefs to “fight back” and with that in mind, he has two VIP guests; Tito Ortiz and Sugar Ray Leonard. 
 
Clemenza starts with a fail, the pasta is too chewy, isn’t this guy Italian? 
 
Chef Ramsay catches Tiffany put a knife to her lips and then touch the food with it, disgusting. Roshni has problems at the meat station, some of the Wellingtons were raw and some overcooked. 
 
Tiffany screws up the Wellingtons and blames everyone else but herself. Patrick serves up lobster that is stone cold. Tiffany makes a second attempt at Wellington, they are perfect.  Chef Ramsay is embarrassed, cold lobster for the second time tonight and he throws out the blue team. 
 
Back in the red kitchen, the women are in the home stretch and not only do they complete their dinner service but the complete the blue teams as well. 
 
Dinner service is done, Chef Ramsay gives an angry lecture to the blue team and tells them to go back upstairs to nominate two people for eviction. 
 
The blue team have reached a decision, the first nominee is Brian and Chef Ramsay is surprised. The second nominee is Clemenza and Chef Ramsay is further shocked. Chef Ramsay will not accept those two nominees, he tells the blue team that the two worse tonight were Patrick and Roshni. Chef Ramsay decides to send Roshni home, she is eliminated.

Hell’s Kitchen 2012 Recap: Episode 7 ‘Top 13 Compete Again’ 6/25/12

On last week’s episode Hell’s Kitchen, the men won the challenge with their sea bass and got a couple of grand to spend at a boutique in Malibu, while they went wine tasting. The women had to hand build a runway, make centerpieces for Hell’s Kitchen first ever fashion night. The women were quickly losing it, their punishment involved a lot of hard labour. 
 
Hells Kitchen was moments from opening and Chef Ramsay briefed everyone on how he wanted everything to go, the timing was very important but Clemenza  wasn’t listening and started the scallops before they were even ready to begin. 
 
Tonight the show continues with the fashion show and when the bikini clad models go down the runway, the blue team makes rookie mistakes as they are very distracted. Meanwhile the red team is ready to explode, Kimmie probably weighs in at 300 pounds and if I were Robyn, I wouldn’t want her on my bad side.

RECAP: Now it is time for the continuation of last week’s Hells Kitchen. Clemenza tries to get ahead by starting the scallops before Chef Ramsay even gives the blue kitchen a ticket, he wasted four scallops. 
 
The kitchen opens for the first time in Hell’s Kitchen history with three mini fashion shows. 
 
Royce and Kimmie have been chosen to help plate food to keep up the quick pace. Part one of the fashion show is beginning and it’s time for the red kitchen to get their three appetizers out to the pass. Barbie tries to correct Tiffany whose pan isn’t hot enough, but she doesn’t listen and the scallops sent back from Chef Ramsay. 
 
The blue kitchen is ready with their first orders. Clemenza is getting cranked, there are way too many scallops for him to prepare and do it right. 
 
Tiffany finally has success with the scallops; Christina and Dana are trying to get their appetizers to the pass when Robyn is searching for work and getting in the way. 
 
All the diners on the red side are happy with what they have received. 
 
Clemenza is holding up the service with his scallops, Guy can see the blue kitchen going down. Guy helped out, but he rushed it and created a bigger mess. 
 
Clemenza and Guy are still working on the scallops while Royce goes back stage to the fashion show and tells them the kitchen needs another five minutes. 
 
The men finally deliver all of their appetizers. Chef Ramsay tells everyone that the timing was dreadful, so this round, they need to do it right. 
 
Guy’s head is on the catwalk, he just can’t stay focused with the models coming down the runway in their swimsuits. 
 
Clemenza is like a lost cat sometimes, he doesn’t know where he’s going.  Robyn screwed up the beef, she over cooked it and needs to more, most of the women chicken out to go to the blue kitchen but Christina heads over, returns without the beef. 
 
In the blue kitchen, all eyes are on Guy on the meat station and he is making rookie mistakes. In the red kitchen, Tiffany’s swordfish cooked by Christina is cold when it comes to the pass. When Chef Ramsay loses it, Tiffany doesn’t take responsibility for her station because she doesn’t to take blame. 
 
Entrees are finished in the red kitchen, the blue kitchen is waiting for Guy’s beef and Royce’s ability as a master plater. Royce gets thrown out temporarily for using a dirty rag to wipe the plates before they are sent out to guests. 
 
Dinner service is over and Hell’s Kitchen first ever fashion show was less than perfect. The women’s red team is the winner. Blue team has to come up with two names that will be up for elimination. 
 
The blue team decide that Clemenza is the first person nominated, the second nominee is Guy. Chef Ramsay calls the two forward. Chef Ramsay asks Justin who should go home, he says Clemeza, so does Royce, Roshni, Brian and Patrick. Chef Ramsay chooses to send Clemenza back in line, Guy is eliminated.
