The Voice has been a fixating television event for the past three seasons, with season three quickly gearing up to become one of the most exciting seasons to date. Unfortunately, two of the current The Voice judges (Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green) have decided to take a hiatus and the new judges (Usher and Shakira) will be welcomed in season four of the show as new interim judges. However, in the true self-indulgent fashion of The Voice, the last episode was riddled with a self-congratulatory vanity project, namely a sneak peek at Christina Aguilera’s new music video for Your Body. The potential future stars of the show had to take a back-seat in the perfumed spotlight of the greatest vocal artiste on the planet, or so Christina fans claim… 
 
See, reality shows such as The Voice, American Idol and X-Factor USA are as much about the production value of the show as the self-indulgent judging panel. Imagine this: Once, long ago, back when teenagers were still parting their peroxide hair along the middle and listening to pop tunes by a no-name with neon eyebrows, you became a singing sensation.  Your songs were heard all over the world; you went big in Japan and released a deluxe version of your debut album with added techno remixes of your biggest hits. The years went by, Al-Qaeda and terrorism became part of popular culture as much as the technological revolution back in the early 90’s did, and the arena of popular music left the clichéd beats and moved to subtle Adele/Duffy vocals. Your career burned with the transition and now you’re stuck with lazy production techniques and a record label which forces you into a corner. You release a hit, but it charts in 60th position and refuses to budge. What do you do? Easy breezy! You become a judge on a reality television show, showcase your talent on a monthly basis and kaboom, you’re more popular than Fukushima! 
 
The same happened to J.Lo. You cannot deny that her career hit stratospheric levels after American Idol. Look at Paula Abdul – she became one of the most recognizable faces in the world after Simon Cowell gave her a chance on the premiere season of American Idol. Oh, and look at Christina Aguilera, who has always been a chart topper, but lacked a significant popularity before her appearance on The Voice. She starred in Burlesque, but was utterly demolished by film critics. She released her Bionic album just before that, which delivered in every sense of the word, but still somehow missed a certain spark of Aguilera magic. The Voice changed all of this for Christina. The three season platform accentuated her assertive and sincere personality. Her vocals were given a platform unlike never before and for the first time in history, it wasn’t raining men – it was raining fake eye lashes and vocal runs. 
 
The Voice drew 10.7 million viewers last week during its three episode premiere special. That’s a potential 10.7 million people who forgot that you’re a singer. That’s a potential 10.7 million people who have been one song away from becoming your biggest fan. That’s a potential 10.7 million who lost out on your style of music. 10.7 million people – that’s the population of Swaziland (a land-locked nation in South Africa), ten times over. 
 
We conclude that self-indulgence in reality television does pay off, especially when it is mixed with the snobbish and corny format of The Voice. Christina Aguilera is forcing her boyfriend, Matthew Rutler, to propose to her or else! Sources claim that Christina demands that Matthew tie the knot or get kicked to the curb. Even worse, Matthew is Jewish and yet selfish Christina is demanding that they get married in a traditional Roman Catholic ceremony!  Of course how a Jew can be married in such a fashion remains a mystery…  Perhaps Christina will insist that Matt convert before marrying her. 
 
This is the same Christina who was called a ‘total bitch’ by The Wanted and managed to disrespect little Justin Bieber on The Voice purely out of jealousy.  Nor can we forget her unloading on Adam Levine and Tony Lucca when they dared to select and perform a song that ruffled her feathers. It was her opinion that Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” was not respectful towards women.  Too bad, so sad Christina – you don’t get to set the standards in the music business – or on The Voice.  Try improving the standards of your own behaviour before you mouth off next time. 
 
Perhaps Christina should be more concerned with the standards of her parenting.  As we reported here on CDL recently, Christina managed to pull a D+ in Star’s report card for best and worst moms.  Christina scored F’s in the Guidance and Behavior ratings with the comment ‘It’s no secret that the Dirty diva enjoys going out and drinking, even getting arrested for public drunkenness last year.  Now that the latest season of The Voice is over, hopefully she can devote more time to young Max.’ [Star, Print Edition, June 25, 2012]

Divorced singer/actress Christina Aguilera has given musician beau Matthew Rutler an ultimatum: marry me or it’s over! The couple has been dating since November 2010, and sources tell me Christina, 31, is desperate to settle down and have more kids. 
 
‘Christina grew up Roman Catholic and has always dreamed of a bog church wedding and lots of babies,’ says my insider.  ‘She expects a proposal in the next several months or he’s history.’

Oh dear, it looks like the claws are still out and scratching in The Wanted camp. The boys have admitted (again) that they’re well and truly “not sorry” for branding the blonde pop princess,Christina Aguilara, “a b****”. Meow! 
Talking to US radio station 92.3 NOW, the lads were all reminded just how much they dissed Xtina the last time they visited the station (er, which was a lot) – to which Tom replied, “Loud mouth. Sorry! Well I’m not sorry!” 
And indeed, he clearly really wasn't sorry – because the boys then went on to play a very serious and not-at-all-set-up game called Beautiful, B**** or Britney, where they were asked to match Jennifer Lopez, Christina and Britney Spears with the aforementioned labels. You can see where this is going, can’t you?

Obviously Tom (who clearly was enjoying having the cheeky last say on everything) stepped in to answer for the band – and he went on to label J-Lo as the beautiful one and Britney as, well, Britney. But when asked where they wanted ‘to place’ Xtina, he replied that Christina could be placed “up my arse”! Ooh Thomas wash that mouth out! 
Of course we all know just how naughty those boys can be (we’ve interviewed them too, we witnessed it with our own unsuspecting eyes). But we can’t help wondering what Ms Aguilera will have to say back to this. Could this become a full-blown celeb war? Only time will tell…
