The live tour of The Voice was cancelled this week after poor ticket sales, however judge Jessie J has revealed that she thinks the cancellation is a positive thing as it’ll help the individual artists to do their own gigs and ‘learn their craft’.
Speaking to BBC Newsbeat at Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend, she said, “It's always disappointing but you know what, it's not a bad thing I don't think. Personally, maybe I shouldn't say this but I will, I actually think it's a good thing.
“Not that it's been cancelled but that they've now got the opportunity to go out and do their own thing. For me it's a bit too similar to other TV shows to do that tour thing.”
She continued, “I think actually the artists have the opportunity now to do gigs around London and really learn their craft. Going on tour can put you in a bubble too early on. It's now a chance for them to spread their wings.”
Jessie also told of her horror of being trapped in the loo at a gig and having to be rescued by Jay-Z’s security. She said, “I went with will.i.am to the first (Jay-Z and Kanye West) Watch The Throne show in London. I somehow managed to find myself walking into the stage with them all — Will, Kanye, Jay-Z, Kim Kardashian.
“I was like ‘Wow, what a crew’, then me and my friend got stuck in the toilet.
“We nipped in to do our make-up and my friend knew the door was broken but locked it anyway and said, ‘Babe I think I’ve broken the door’. They’d been on for one song, we could hear them and it got to about 15 minutes and Jay’s security came in and they literally kicked down the whole door.”
